Labor Senator Penny Wong’s career and credibility have “taken a hit” after damning allegations she bullied a late colleague, says The Australian’s Sophie Elsworth.

Senator Wong defended her relations with late Senator Kimberley Kitching in an interview with Chris Uhlmann on Sunday, which Ms Elsworth labelled as “disastrous”.

“I thought it did her no favours, she was ducking and weaving through the questions,” Ms Elsworth said.

“People are starting to see through these women of the left, who champion stamping out sexism, misogyny and the like, but when it comes to their own team they’re a bunch of hypocrites.

“Penny Wong has absolutely proven she’s a hypocrite.

“The remarks she made to Senator Kitching about not being able to have children was just shocking …. probably the most offensive thing you can say to a woman."

Senator Wong has denied the allegations.
