Peter Thiel, the first investor of Facebook, tells the story of the time Mark Zuckerberg turned down $1 BILLION dollars when Yahoo offered to buy Facebook in July of 2006. At the time the company was run by a bunch of college students and wasn't making a profit.
A board meeting was called to discuss the offer with Thiel, Jim Breyer, and Zuckerberg. Peter and Jim thought that it would be a good idea to consider the offer but when Mark walked in he said "this is probably going to be a 10 minute meeting. We're obviously going to turn this down". Peter insists that without Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the future, and all the products we wanted to build within Facebook, he may have sold the company.
