The quaint German town of Wittlich holds a chilling claim in werewolf lore, reputed to be the site of the last German werewolf killing. Legend has it that in this town, there exists a shrine where a perpetually burning candle wards off the return of the dreaded creature. According to local folklore, if this candle ever extinguishes, it's believed that the werewolf will reemerge.
This legend was brought into sharp focus when, in the late 1980s, two Airmen stationed at the Morbach U.S. Air Force munitions depot had a startling encounter. On their way back to the base, they reported a sighting that aligned eerily with the tales of the Morbach Monster, a notorious figure in the annals of werewolf sightings. This encounter near Morbach added a modern chapter to the long-standing lore of the German werewolf, intertwining historical legend with contemporary accounts.
