My first time catching the brand new Canadian Forces Kingfisher!
The CC-295 Kingfisher is the Canadian military version of the C-295. In 2019, Royal Canadian Air Force ordered 16 C-295's to replace their aging CC-115 Buffalo fleet for their Search and Rescue (SAR) operations that are currently in Comox, B.C.
The aircraft is expected to be based Winnipeg, Trenton and Greenwood once fully certified.
The order of the CC-295 has been delayed another 3 years and deliveries are now expected for the summer of 2025 / 2026.
This tail number (501) was the first. CC-295 to be delivered to the RCAF back in 2020, and since then the aircraft has been being used for training purposes. There are currently 4 CC-295 that have been delivered to Canada with the other deliveries being delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
The aircraft is flying from Comox to Goose Bay (with stops in Winnipeg and Ottawa) for crosswind training. This is the first ever visit of the CC-295 to Ottawa.
