Canada's chief public health officer says the country is at a critical point in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The B.1.1.7 variant, which first emerged in the U.K., is quickly muscling out other strains as it aims to become the dominant version of the virus, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam warned on Friday.
Ontario hospitals have been instructed to postpone elective and non-urgent surgeries to ensure they have the capacity for COVID-19 patients, while Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia are seeing similar spikes in case counts. Plus, Manitoba said today it's at the start of a third COVID-19 wave.
As Mike Le Couteur reports, Canada's chief public health officer says tighter public health restrictions are essential.
