Please understand there are exceptions to this rule but at the basic level this is an example of the 3 Strikes law in Texas:
Bob gets convicted of a felony (3rd degree and higher) and goes to prison.
Bob finishes that prison sentence.
Bob gets convicted of a second felony (3rd degree and higher) and goes to prison.
Bob finishes the second prison sentence.
Bob gets arrested (notice I did not say convicted) for a third felony (3rd degree and higher). At this point, Bob is now looking at a minimum of 25 years to life IF convicted. It does not matter if the felony Bob was arrested for is only a 3rd or 2nd degree felony.
