A review and test of the SmartLav+ vs. Rode Lavalier with H1 recorder and my on camera audio.
If you're shooting outdoors, in a noisy environment or far away from your camera, you really need a lavalier microphone to get reasonable quality audio.
The SmartLav+ is a newer model than the original SmartLav. Apparently the original version had some background hiss issues which are now fixed in the + version.
My own opinion is that the SmartLav+ is a bit flatter sounding than the Rode Lav with H1 recorder but given the low price, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I don't think there's anything else on the market that could give you the same quality of hardware and recording sound as the SmartLav+ for this low price.
Hopefully this comparison of the SmartLav+ , rode lavalier and camera microphone will be enough to give you a good insight into which is best for you.
