Oyster SJ35 'Surefire' was built in 1988 and sold to Hong Kong. She is now based at the Manila Yacht Club. A classic IOR 3/4 ton racer-cruiser, she is beamy for her length (11 ft on 27 ft waterline length) and very lightweight. Surefire makes the most of light air, and will point very close upwind. However, like many IOR boats, she is a bit of a handful downwind, when her fine bow tends to dig in and threaten to broach, and in winds above 16 knots, where her huge sail area makes her a handful, particularly when there aren't 8 stout sailors to sit on the windward rail. This is a boat on which an early reef may actually mean better speed.
