Are you experiencing nodules or budding like these, popping up in the locking pattern of your microlocs?
🌿 If so, don’t worry this is definitely fixable. Here are two methods I like to use to close these nodules / budding before they harden and give your locs that unwanted pearl-like look.
Now, nodules can form for a few reasons: going too long between maintenance, incorrect interlocking, palm rolling your microlocs between reties, or in some cases like my clients, natural air pockets that form with the natural maturation process.
🌿 I’m going to show you exactly how I repair these nodules for my clients, in real time using these 2 methods.
First up is the interlocking method. After I finish her regular interlock maintenance with my @theuniversalloctool, I go back in with my #7 latch hook from @brambleroots. I use it to add a few extra interlocking loops right where the nodule is, closing up that air pocket and making sure the loc is even in size again.
The second method I use is crocheting. Here, you can see the air pocket a bit better. In this case I start by using my fingers to interlock the hair at the root when there’s extra growth because it allows me ro move faster, then I finish with my interlocking tool of choice. Instead of looping through like i did with the latch hook, I use a thread pick which is equivalent to a .35 - .40 crochet needle. By crocheting, I can close the pocket seamlessly and get the job done in half the time.
🌿 For those not familiar with crochet, interlocking might just be your go-to of choice, but if you know the crochet technique, it can seriously cut down on your repair time over all and will instantly loc the area in no time.
Now let me ask you, after seeing both repair techniques, which one would you choose to fix this issue on your clients moving forward?
