Is getting married just bananas?

CK Sanders, a Brooklyn musician and entrepreneur, was forever changed the moment she cracked open authors Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jetha's book Sex at Dawn. The book poses the question: What if science proves we are not meant to marry each other and/or be monogamous?

Sanders says, "In my 20′s, it always seemed so strange how my friends were getting married right and left and that seemed to be the ultimate goal. There had to be more to life then planning a wedding, spending thousands of dollars on some showy production and then spending the rest of your life with one person. When all of them seemed to be having affairs and/or getting divorced in my 30′s, I knew I was on to something. Then I read Sex at Dawn, and I felt completely validated by science."

Exploring tired notions of a women's worthiness, happiness and "happily ever after," last year, she wrote the authors to get permission to use their actual book in a music video, set to her song "Sex at Dawn," by her band, Spiral Jetty Club.

Sanders comments, "I wanted to bring a funny musical and visual exploration of their book to life, and they have been so supportive Tweeting the video out to their readers." In addition, both Dan Savage, the authoritative author on sex and an activist for LGBT rights, as well as actress Charlize Theron, who recently wrote about her happy life as a single woman, served as inspirations for the music video.

In the music video, a beautiful woman obsessed with getting married escapes from a mental ward with other single women, only to find humans have evolved into a different species -- not interested in monogamy or marriage whatsoever. Going to great lengths to get what she thinks will make her happy, she is determined to find her betrothed. She resorts to desperate tactics as she plans her wedding, including getting a makeover, stealing, lying and bribery.

Directed by Anya Elnikova, whose short films have shown at the Cannes Film Festival, the video makes light of society's superficiality and egoism and serves as commentary on the hysteric obsession with traditional marriage and weddings. It also challenges the expectations for women (or men) to marry by a certain age, marry a certain partner, or look or act a certain way to be loved and valued.
