WORKING OF RAMP TYPE DVM
This is the block diagram of RAMP Type DVM.
1) At the beginning, a Ramp voltage is initiated which may be positive or negative going.
2) The input comparator compares the Ramp with the unknown input voltages.
3) As soon as the Ramp equals the voltage it sends a start pulse to the gate.
4) The Ramp voltage continues to decreases with time until it reaches the ground level at that instant the ground comparator generates a stop pulse to the gate.
5) Meanwhile, during the time duration, between the gate gets a start and stop pulse, pulses generated by the clock oscillator are allowed to pass through the gate to the counter. The counter counts the number of pulses passed through the gate and displays on the read out.
6) The sample rate multivibrator determines the rate at which the measurement the cycles are initiated. The waveform is shown here.
