Hello!!
Today's video is a comparison of Noteshelf and Bamboo Paper. There's a Venn Diagram in there, that shows what each of them support, as well as things that are in common. However, I can expand upon that here.
Preparing for this video, I listed out things I like about each app.
There were a lot of options to choose from with Noteshelf. It is compatible with the split screen mode, which makes looking at text or images, while taking notes, super easy to do. Bamboo Paper isn't optimized for that yet :(
They both have different options for writing tools, but Bamboo Paper (paid version) yields more variation in the tools. There's watercolor, marker/spray can, pen and pencil types. While Noteshelf really give you 3 different pen tools that vary slightly in the way they look.
Where Noteshelf really has the leg up, in my opinion, is the range of customizability. You can change the appearance of the "book shelf", the book covers, pages, customize page templates, stylus settings, and different language recognition capabilities. When you add images you can crop them in square or custom shapes. And I can't forget that select function, it really gives Noteshelf an edge. If you misplace something, or want to copy it over into another page, you can! Bamboo Paper doesn't have a selection tool. Which shocks me, considering these are notetaking apps.
A downfall for both, is that neither are infinite pages. If I threw Samsung Notes into the ring, it would get a point because it has infinite pages. It's really quite handy not splitting up content that belongs together.
Even though a lot can be said for Noteshelf, I do notice some user experience issues, selection tool can be a bit clunky, and the area erasing is choppy/blocky. So, it definitely has some room for improvement.
Overall, Noteshelf works for what I am looking for. I like the customizing options, and the level at which I can adjust the pages, and the content on the pages. If you're looking for a really simple interface, Bamboo Paper might be your interest! It's got a fair range of tools, and really nails what it means to do. Give you a place to take notes. You can add images, which is great. But that's about the extent of the extra features it packs.
