The summer program of Saphos Trains tours in the south west was concluded on Wednesday the 12th of August with a double headed run over the Devon banks from Bristol to Plymouth with 46100 'Royal Scot' & 70000 'Britannia'.
The two Hosking owned locos have been sharing duties in the south west based out of Bristol since mid July, and were teamed up to face the notorious Devon banks on 'The Devonian' which originated with Diesel power from Cardiff.
After switching to steam in Bristol, the pain are seen on the outward run at Keynsham and Witham before attacking the first bank of Whiteball and secondly Daignton. On the return we see the steep climb away from Plymouth of Hemerdon bank, followed by the northward accent of Whiteball. And we round off the video with two evenings clips at Castle Cary and Avoncliff Halt.
Sunshine and high temperatures had put doubt in the minds of enthusiasts as to whether steam power would be threatened at all with fire rise, however the Diesel on the back remained silent all day allowing the two class 7's to put on a fine show. Hope you enjoy!
