Senior enlisted special operations leaders from across the Indo–Pacific region are converging on Sydney, Australia, in March to develop their strategic knowledge, exchange information and help build closer ties across the region.
The Australian Army’s Special Operations Command is hosting the inaugural Indo–Pacific Special Operations Forces Summit Course for command-level senior enlisted leaders from 04–22 March 2019 at HMAS Penguin in Mosman, Sydney. United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) civilian instructors from the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) at Tampa in Florida travelled to Australia to conduct the course.
This is the first time JSOU has conducted a Summit Course outside the US or Europe. The course is designed to increase students’ understanding of strategic military thinking, national policy and elements of national power, organisational leadership, and facilitate the exchange of information and help build closer relationships between all Indo–Pacific special operations organisations.
Special operations command sergeant majors from Australia, Mongolia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore attended the course. Australia, New Zealand and the US also provided mentors. Special Operations Training & Education Centre (SOTEC) is conducting the course on behalf of SOCOMD. SOTEC is the Australian Army’s special operations ‘school house’, responsible for Special Operations Command’s recruitment, selection, training, education and trade management.
