There is a misconception that if an oil seal goes out or starts leaking on an air fork collapse is inevitable. A nice feature of the AER48 fork is that the air is housed in a separate chamber and a leaking fork seal has zero effect on the air pressure and the fork will not collapse. We recently experienced a leaky fork seal on a set of AER48 forks, (on the air spring side) and rode with it leaking oil with out issue. Replacing the fork seal isn’t much different on the AER48 than a regular spring fork and here is how it is done. If you have any doubts to your abilities or lack the proper tools to do the job, take it to a qualified mechanic, you can do serious damage to the fork if done improperly.
