About the Speaker:
Algirdas Šemeta has served as Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud since 2010. In this position he oversaw the development of a directive on a financial transaction tax, which is currently being pursued through 'enhanced cooperation' by eleven member states. Mr Šemeta has been vocal on the importance of developing fair taxation and combatting tax evasion across Europe and will deliver a breakfast briefing at the IIEA on his work.
