Shawarma is a famous street food in India nowadays. Basically It is a middle eastern cuisine and available in non veg but I have prepared vegetarian shawarma from scratch today. I have prepared Shawarma bread without yeast and without eggs . You can also substitute all purpose flour with wheat flour for more healthy version . Traditionally shawarma bread is prepared with all purpose flour .
It is a complete meal in a wrap which has tangy, spicy flavours with the crunch of vegetables , tandoori paneer or cottage cheese, lettuce and fries. All preparation can be done in advance period of time . Pita bread that stuffed with pickled vegetables, cottage cheese , lettuce, sauces , fries makes a complete meal. It can be consume as a snack or main course. So it is a super delicious and award winning recipe for me. Do try and impress your family with this flavorful delicious wrap.
Here are the ingredients 💕
Veg shawarma ingredients-
Pickle vegetables:-
250 ml - water
1- bayleaf
4- cloves
8-9 - black peppercorns
1 spoon - sugar
3/4 tsp - salt
1/4 cup - vinegar
Thick slices of vegetables ( carrots, beetroots, cucumber, some green chillies)
Garlic sauce :-
1/2 cup - mayonnaise
2 spoon - hung curd
2 cloves - garlic
1 tsp - lemon juice
1/2 tsp - black pepper powder
Salt to taste
Hot sauce :-
5-6 soaked red chillies
2- garlic pods
2-3 tbsp - chilli water
1/2 tsp - black salt
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp - lemon juice
1/2 tsp - vinegar
1 tbsp - olive oil
1/2 tsp - roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp - powdered sugar
Marination :-
1/4 cup - hung curd
2 tbsp - mayonnaise
1 tbsp - ketchup
3/4 tsp - roasted chickpea flour
1 tsp - ginger garlic paste
1/4 tsp - roasted cumin powder
1/2 tsp - garam masala
1/2 tsp - black salt
1/2 tsp - kashmiri red chilli powder
1/4 tsp - salt
1 tsp - oregano
1/2 tsp - lemon juice
2-3 tbsp - fresh coriander
200 gm - paneer / cottage cheese
Shawarma dough ingredients:- ( cup size-250 ml)
2 cups - all purpose flour
1/2 tsp - salt
1 tbsp - sugar
1 tsp - baking powder
1/2 tsp - baking soda
2 spoon - curd
1 tsp - oil
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp - water
1 tsp - oil for greasing
Flour for dusting
French fries (homemade or store bought)
Lettuce
