The bronze dancing Shiva as Lord Nataraja is the most recognizable form of Shiva and perhaps of all the Hindu gods in the vast Hindu pantheon. The Nataraja has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Nataraja sculpture. He looks light as a feather as he dances on the dwarf of ignorance, Apasmara. The arch or prahbhamandala surrounding Shiva is carved with swirling decorations. One can often see the love that goes into the making of a sculpture by the details of the hands and the feet. Both are exquisite on this Nataraja. They have all the natural creases of a hand or foot each adorned with multiple toe rings and rings. His wife, Parvati is next to him.
