SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER - Is a drama about truth. Two women fight to let their version of the truth be known, while a Doctor attempts to reveal that truth while a young woman’s fate hangs in the balance.
Synopsis-
In this Tennessee Williams' play, in The Garden District of New Orleans in the '30s, a young woman, Catherine Holly is traumatized and committed to a mental institution after witnessing her cousin's violent death on a trip to Europe. Her aunt, Violet Venable, who put her in that hospital, wants to hide the events of her son's death (and homosexuality) and attempts to bribe young surgeon Dr. John Cukrowicz (Dr. Sugar) to perform a lobotomy on Catherine to silence her “babblings” of her gruesome account of the circumstances surrounding Sebastian’s death. Catherine asserts he was cannibalized at the hands of local young men whose sexual favors he sought, using her as a device to procure the young men, as he had earlier used his mother, Violet, until she proved too old. The Doctor vows to find out the truth about Catherine's story before taking any action and employs the use of a truth serum and talk therapy to help her.
