PRO Training & Development Manager Paul Rejer reflects on the decision to send off Jackson during FC Dallas' match against Vancouver Whitecaps.
This is a perfect example of why there is a law to give 4th Officials the power to assist the referee with on-field incidents.
Dallas' Jackson is clearly guilty of violent conduct when he deliberately swings his arm into his opponent's face. However, it would have been extremely difficult for the referee Ricardo Salazar to see due to his position and the impact occurring on his blind side.
4th Official Drew Fischer has a clear view, though, and is able to inform the referee over the communication system to enable him to make the correct decision and send Jackson off.
