A sitting BJP MLA and 11 other people have been convicted by a court in the Muzzaffarnagar riots case, 9 years after the incident rocked the state of Uttar Pradesh. All of those convicted have been sent to two years in jail but the MLA has said that he will contest the verdict of the Court. The Muzaffaranagar riots in 2013 led to the death of at least 62 people and displaced over 50,000 people. The Hindu-Muslim riots have since then been a subject of both judicial and social discussion.
