Cardamom
Source: Dried, nearly ripe fruits of Elettaria cardamomum.
Family: Zingiberaceae.
Chemical constituents: 1, 8 cineole, linalyl acetate, alpha terpineol, alpha terpinyl acetate, citronellol, geraniol, methyl eugenol, myrcene, limonene.
Chemical test: Take Cardamom powder and add drops of water and then add drops of iodine solution to give blue colour.
Substituents and adulterants: long wild native cardamoms, Amomum aromaticum or Amom subulatum.
Ayurvedic uses:
Elakanadi Kashayam for chronic respiratory conditions, asthma.
It cleanses the mouth and can be used as a mouth freshener.
Eladi Thailam - Very famous Ayurveda oil used in treating allergic dermatitis, urticaria, scabies etc.
