In the US the remnants of storm Ida have left a trail of devastation and paralysis. At least 24 people are dead after the storm battered eastern states with record rainfall. Rescuers are still racing to save people trapped by floodwaters and forecasters are warning many rivers are still rising. States of emergency are in effect across the region, and President Biden has promised federal assistance.
