EA's Frostbite is without any doubt one of the best currently available engines in gaming industry. One of its most reconizeable features is environment destruction. Originally introduced in Battlefield Bad Company, back in 2008 it has evolved since then quite a bit.
Let's take a jounrney through time and compare almost all Battlefield games which were powered by this technology, to see how much it got improved during all these years.
For sake of this comparison I recorded footage in following titles:
Frostbite1.0:
Battlefield Bad Company (2008)
Frostbite 1.5:
Battlefield 1943 (2009)
BAttlefield Bad Company 2 (2010)
Frostbite 2.0
Battlefield 3 (2011)
Frostbite 3.0
Battlefield 4 (2013)
Battlefield 1 (2016)
Battlefield V (2018)
All games were recorded on Xbox One X.
Please note Frostbite became so popular and flexible to use so it become frequently used in other EA games such as FIFA series, Medal of Honor, Need For Speed, etc.
I waned however to focus only on its usage in GF series ans it was originally designed for these particular games.
Also, please note that I deliberately ommited Battlefield Hardline, even despite it was powered by Frostbite 3.0 due to its limitation in destruction model. Most likely implemented to fit Police themed setting.
