Soo Borson, MD co-leads the BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Early Detection of Dementia and is Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the University of Southern California, and Professor Emerita of Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of Washington, where she developed its memory disorders clinic and led the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center's diversity recruitment efforts. She is a Deputy Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, past President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and a Distinguished Fellow of APA and GSA. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, including research on detection and care of people living with dementia and their care partners, and contributions to improving policy and standards of practice for population based care. She has consulted widely with health care organizations working to become ‘dementia capable,’ and seeks to integrate clinical, community, and public health perspectives into a unified framework for a more dementia-friendly society.
CONFERENCE CONTENT:
A ONE-DAY CONFERENCE designed to bring together health care professionals, clinical researchers, residential care facility and community agency administrators, and providers in the greater Los Angeles area who care for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This year's conference will focus on the growing attention and need for early detection. Sessions will focus on why detection is important, risk factors for cognitive decline, screening and tools that can be used to aid in early detection and diagnosis. Individual presentations will be complemented by panels that give voice to the experience of persons with dementia, their family members, and those from the community.
