Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a nationwide scheme which aims at providing access to financial services, such as, Banking / Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, and Pension in an affordable manner to all. Any citizen of India above the age of 10 years can open a bank account under this scheme.
An individual can open an account under this scheme with any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlet with Zero balance. The account holders will get a RuPay debit card which can be used across all ATMs for cash withdrawal.
An account under this scheme can be opened by presenting one officially valid document. Any persons who do not have the ‘officially valid document’ can still open “Small Accounts” with banks. The account holders under this scheme will get an accidental insurance cover of Rs.2 lakh and an overdraft facility up to Rs.10,000.
