STORYLINE:
Police clashed with demonstrating students outside Greece's parliament on Thursday in the latest protest against a raft of harsh austerity measures designed to get the country's finances back on track.
Police fired tear gas and clashed with youths during the brief incident after some 1,500 people marched though central Athens.
No arrests or injuries were reported by police.
Greece avoided bankruptcy in May after it received a rescue loan package from EU partners and the International Monetary Fund, set to reach 110 (b) billion euros over the next three years.
In return, the Socialist government imposed a strict austerity plan, that is facing renewed union opposition.
Unions have called a general strike for December 15 (2010), the seventh this year, while student protest groups are staging occupations of university buildings around the country.
Another student rally is planned in Athens on Monday, marking two years since the fatal police shooting of a teenage boy that sparked major riots in Greek cities.
