This is how we raise 100% grass fed beef cows and keep our pastures healthy using intensive rotational grazing. In this video, we talk about the benefits of regenerative agriculture and rotational grazing on small acreage with electric fence wire. We save a ton of $$$ on livestock feed by concentrating our grass fed beef cows on small paddocks that we move every day. They are forced to eat everything in that area (including most of the weeds that are less desirable). We are also able to maximize outdoor fly control and parasitic worms by keeping the cows away from their manure for 40 consecutive days. Deworming cattle for intestinal parasites is unnecessary in this system because they are not exposed to worms from their fresh poop. We move them into fresh grass every day. Liz demonstrates polywire electric fencing installation with step-in posts. It only takes a few minutes to move the cows each day.
Our biggest challenge at this point is figuring out our watering system for cattle. We use a solar-powered well and hoses to run water to the cows and move their water almost every day.
We have noticed that rotational grazing cows and chickens on our small acreage off the grid homestead has improved our pastures, and our quality of life!
