Myanmar's military has insisted it's working to achieve peace and security, but its deadly crackdown continues. Meanwhile, the United Nations is ramping up diplomatic efforts. An informal Security Council session with key stakeholders is scheduled as a special envoy is deployed to the region. Ms Christine Burgener, the UN special envoy for Myanmar is set to embark on an Asian tour. Details of where and when are still being worked out, but she will begin her trip in Thailand. She wants face-to-face meetings with Myanmar's generals but has not received permission to visit the country.
