Lilly Ledbetter tells the story of how she fought unequal pay at General Motors and took her case to the US Supreme Court and lost. It then took an act of Congress to right the wrong. Now President Obama is asking Congress to finish the job with the Paycheck Fairness act. The Senate is scheduled to vote on it tomorrow. To critics who claim there is no pay gap between men and women, Obama says "it's not a myth, it's math" and says to look at the data.
Obama then signed a pair of presidential orders that makes it easier for women to find out if they are being underpaid. Today, April 8, is "Equal Pay Day". The average woman in america has to work more than three additional months to make what the average man makes in a year.
