One of our favorite DAY TRIPS from XELA, GUATEMALA is to the traditional town of Zunil. This Mayan town in Guatemala is just south of Xela (Quetzaltenango) and is easily reached by frequent chicken buses.

Many visitors pass through this traditional Mayan town on day trips from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to the hot springs of Fuentes Georginas. However, we prefer coming to Zunil in order to visit the enigmatic San Simon, a very intriguing Guatemalan deity. Understanding how and why San Simon is worshipped is fascinating and we're happy to share this day trip from Xela, Guatemala with you.
