(27 Jun 2019) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, European Council President Donald Tusk, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker met ahead of the G-20 summit in Osaka on Thursday.
During a lunch meeting, Tusk outlined some of the issues to be addressed at the summit, including climate change, trade wars, tensions with Iran and strained United States-China trade relations.
He said this year's summit will be "a difficult" one.
The Japan-European Union free trade pact took effect earlier this year.
The pact removed nearly all tariffs between the two economic zones.
Abe will meet with G-20 leaders during the summit, which runs June 28-29.
