Epistylis sp. are colonial sedentary infusoria belonging to the class of Ciliata. These Ciliophora attach themselves to weakened fish or at sites where the skin is injured. Epistylis sp. colonies resemble whitish cotton-like formations that can be confused with a fungal infection, caused by the fungus Saprolegnia sp. If you see similar formations on the body of your fish, you need to start treatment. To combat these parasites we recommend using EXIT, which kills protozoal infections, and eSHa 2000, which prevents the development of secondary bacterial infections and accelerates the healing of wounds on the skin of fish.
