In this heartfelt story, Natalie Patterson speaks on the terrors and down fall that Alcohol and Drug Addiction can have on a person and their Family.
As of 2014, Drug Overdose is now the leading cause of Injury Death in the United States, ahead of Car Accidents & Firearms.
Please help us combat Drug & Alcohol Addiction on International Drug Overdose Awareness Day by sharing "I Know Someone" & [ Ссылка ]. If we can empower just one person to turn their life around, it will have been more than worth it. Thank you for all your help.
Poem: I Know Someone
Written By: Natalie Patterson
I know someone out there is trying on the word "addict" for the first time
I know someone is struggling to unpack the mayhem of their youth
I know there are families trying to figure out the next right thing to do
There is no right way to survive this
Just the path you chose
Just the next 12 steps you take
This is for those who won't turn their backs on the addicts
Won't forget the pain that led to benders and denial
I know someone needs this reminder
You are not alone
You are a fighter
A flickering candle
The last light before pitch black
A song sung leading them back home
A thinning river just before the pour into the ocean
You are what miracles are made of
What communities are made from
Waist deep in troubled water but clinging to hope
Addiction dismantles the way we love
Casts folks aside
Deems them unlovable
But we must LOVE in the face of this
Must love them back to whole
Fill them with "remember when it didn't hurt so much"
Nothing is fair about addiction
I know someone with a fist full of recovery chips
Grateful for a family that never let go
Sharing stories of a journey they survived
Because they survived
And you can too...
