In this video we will see something we will call "implicit central image" because it does not refer to the MID signal of the M-S mode but to the apparent central image created by two perfectly balanced tracks in the L-R field.
The #pan controls of this #stereo track are exactly opposite at the same value, therefore the sound of the wah guitar is balanced.
Now we are going to move one of the two pan controls. Notice how when the signal is unbalanced, even with a relatively small movement, the stereo expands or at least seems.
Let's repeat with the track in isolation.
Now let's do the same but instead of expanding the panning, let's close it.
Although in this case we are closing the stereo field we can still see an increase in the space of the #mix, this is only noticeable in context and is due to the fact that the weight of the track has been moved from the center creating in fact... an other type of expansion.
