Please note the whole video is set to music and the second part is meant to be humorous.
Early in the morning, we see Thunder perched on the side of the tor and Akecheta on the cliff side, perching on the gnarly tree. He flies to the nest and Thunder joins him shortly afterwards. The eagles are alert and vocalise - something is flying around (but can't be seen, even from the WEO camera). Eventually, they relax their guard. Juvenile eagles are still travelling around the island, as one short clip shows.
The eagles return in the evening and I made a little story up. Thunder brings some dry grass, which is entangled in her talon, and tries to deal with it. Akecheta watches from the adjacent rock and then hops down to the nest. He appears to be wanting to help, but Thunder won't let him interfere. Offended, Akecheta decides to get his own clump of grass and, when Thunder tries to take over, he wingslaps her on two occasions. He has had his little revenge, but Thunder expresses her displeasure vocally. All of a sudden, this burst of interest for nesting material subsides and Akecheta hops onto the rock, leaving shortly after. Thunder lingers a few moments longer, then departs (presumably for her night roost).
Did they enjoy the breeding season so much that they are eager to prepare for the next, or was it a residue of the nesting season behaviour? :) And where are the West End trio now? Still on Catalina, island-hopping or are they exploring mainland California? Will one of them chance upon Spirit of Big Bear Valley, or Star and Sentry from the Redding nest? Good luck to all of them!

INFORMATION FOR NEW VISITORS TO THE LUCEFORALL CHANNEL: Please note that this is an entertainment channel, even though you can still learn something about the eagles and I am always happy to share whatever information I gather along the way. I often make up little stories to amuse viewers and friends and, on occasions, I use instrumental music as background, so it is not suited to everybody. If your interest in eagles is more professional, there are other channels to follow, on YouTube. This small channel wants to be a little oasis, a refuge, and I wish to promote a positive atmosphere. I will gladly accept constructive criticism, expressed in polite and friendly terms, but I will remove any insulting or rude remarks. Thank you for understanding.
