In this video, I show mountain lion tracks and scats. Scats are helpful to trackers who are trying to identify the species that made them. In this case, the scat was confirmed as belonging to a mountain lion as it was caught on trail camera depositing it. An interesting behavioral interaction happened when a gray fox came along and over-marked on top of the mountain lion scat. I explain this behavior and what it means in the video. The two mountain lions that were seen on the video were a mother and her yearling. The young one made a nice track in mud and I examine that and show the details that help trackers identify it as a mountain lion track. You can also see the adult mountain lion make a scrape before she deposits the scat. Note that she does not bury her scat as domestic cats do. Wild felids do not usually bury theirs like domestic cats do. Hope you enjoy the video and learn something about tracks and scats of large carnivores!
