In 2016 Porsche upgraded the infotainment systems in their vehicles with a new PCM unit, aka PCM 4. From 2012 and Up to MY 2016 PCM 3.1 featured in vehicles, although well received at the outset, it was beginning to show its age. PCM 4 provided an improved user experience with a higher resolution screen and capacitive touchscreen just like the one on your smartphone, and these changes provided an excellent basis for smartphone integration via Apple Carplay.
Up until now it wasn't entirely clear whether the PCM 4 units could be retrofitted, this video explores whether owners can ditch the infamous pcm 3, forget all about joyeauto et al and retrofit the PCM4. Watch this video to find out if it is possible, what has to be done and what is required to add pcm 4 into your Porsche!
Putting the 981 to the side, we borrow a 958.2 Cayenne to use as a test mule to establish if it can be done. At the end of the day the PCM 4 is just a VW MIB2 unit, what could possibly go wrong???

Please note that if you have BOSE or Burmeister fitted, PCM 4 is not compatible out of the box and you will need to commit to swapping your amplifier if you want to perform this retrofit.
