Kenya and Haiti Sign Agreement Over Police Deployment | Subscribe to Firstpost
Kenya and Haiti signed a "reciprocal" agreement on Friday. The security deal will enable deployment of police personnel from the East African country in the gang-plagued Caribbean nation. Kenyan President William Ruto said, he and Haitian PM Ariel Henry have "discussed the next steps to enable the fast-tracking of the deployment." The pact comes after Kenya said that it was ready to provide up to 1,000 personnel to lead a UN-backed law and order mission in Haiti. A Nairobi court had objected to the decision, calling it unconstitutional as the two countries had not signed a reciprocal agreement on the issue. Haiti's government has pleaded for international help to confront violence that has cost thousands of lives.
