Sika deer are under first-class state protection in China. They were once on the verge of extinction due to overhunting and habitat loss. After four decades of conservation efforts, the number of sika deer living in the Taohongling Nature Reserve in east China's Jiangxi Province has seen a tenfold increase. Scientists there are now using new technologies such as AI facial recognition to better monitor the endangered species. #ChinaBiodiversity #Planetmatters
