The Orang Pendek is an alleged bipedal mystery ape native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is small in stature, said to stand between 3-4 feet tall, with a mostly dark coloured coat, long arms and possessing great strength. While stories of ape-men in the region date back centuries, the Orang Pendek first came to wider notice during the early 20th Century. A number of sightings and reports have followed over the years. What could lie behind such stories?
