Zinc Chloride is formed through a single displacement reaction, as shown here:
Zn(s)+ 2HCl (aq) → ZnCl2 (aq) +H2 (g)
Zinc Chloride,as a solid, is a white crystalline substance as are most metal chlorides. Like many transitional metal chlorides, it takes on a green aqueous form. The reaction is also very exothermic. Zinc Chloride is used commonly as an ingredient in anesthetics.
