There are times when the colors in our landscape paintings are more neutral, so mixing complementary colors can be used to create those neutrals. Examples of this are blue and orange, or. yellow and purple. By combining these complementary colors, the intensity of each color is muted and a more neutral shade is created. Mixing complementary colors is a valuable technique for landscape painters to achieve a wide range of subtle and nuanced colors.
