Early Wednesday morning, a deadly fire broke out in Mangaf, Ahmadi Governorate, in southern Kuwait, where many foreign workers live. The fire quickly spread through a six-story building, killing 49 people, mostly Indians from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and north Indian states. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and if there were any building code violations.

Initial reports say the fire started because a cooking gas cylinder exploded in the room of an Egyptian security guard. The explosion caused a fire that spread rapidly through the building. The fire began on the ground floor of Block-4.
The building's owner, who is also the company sponsor, is a Kuwaiti. The building had 195 people living in different apartments. Out of these, 92 people are safe, and 20 were not home because they were working night shifts. The building housed employees of the NBTC company.
The fire happened at four in the morning when most workers were asleep. This made the situation worse. Some people died trying to escape by jumping off the building, but most died from breathing in smoke.
After thus tragic incident, The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, ordered an investigation into the big fire at an apartment building where many foreign workers, mostly Indians, lived. He promised to hold those responsible for the tragedy, which killed at least 49 people, accountable.
