In a memorial service honoring former lady Rosalynn Carter, former first daughter Amy Carter shared a letter her father, Jimmy, had written to his love more than seven decades earlier.
“My mom spent most of her life in love with my dad,” Carter said. “Their partnership and love story was a defining feature of her life. Because he isn’t able to speak to you today, I am going to share some of his words about loving and missing her.”
Rosalynn died Nov. 19. The former president, who is 99 and in hospice care, was able to attend the service honoring his late wife at Emory University. Other guests included President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, all of the other living former first ladies, the PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff and many others.
