Last week people from all around came out to Modesto, California for the big annual American Graffiti Kiwanis Classic Car Parade and for the first time the parade and cruise was expanded to McHenry Ave.

For people who are old enough to remember American Graffiti weekends in Modesto use to be even bigger than they are today and use to be held on the entire length of Mchenry Ave. Hundreds of thousands of people in the 1970's, 1980's and early 1990's use to come to Modesto to cruise the streets on the first weekend. That event was not at all as regulated as the event yesterday and ended up being shut down by city leaders who expressed concern over crime and violence associated with the event. Also, those events are not to be confused with the original cruising that inspired the American Graffiti movie that took place in the Downtown Modesto area in the 1940's, 1950's, and 1960's.

After the American Graffiti cruising weekend was closed it seemed like Modesto was about to forget their cruising history, however a few years ago a group of people led by Modesto View's Chris Murphy and the Kiwanis club, led a charge to bring the original spirit and culture of American Graffiti and cruising back to the forefront with bigger celebrations and a "Classic Car Parade" which is becoming more and more like the great cruising we remember.

This year for the first time in decades the cruise was expanded to include the lower part of McHenry Ave. as well as Downtown Modesto.

We headed on down the Kiwanis Classic Car Parade in order to bring you the best local coverage of the parade you'll see. In this video we present our coverage of the parade it's self with a music video like no other!
