The teacher begins with a poem about time, not to emphasis the power of our choices, but rather the sovereignty of God over time both now and into eternity. The thing that makes us different from the animals is that God has given us an awareness of, and yearning for, eternity. But left to ourselves, we cannot reach out and grasp it. The great frustration of life under the sun is that like the animals, we too will die. We are eternal creatures stuck in the mud.
