This was a very special Cheshire Flyers fly-out for six flexwing pilots and crew. The weather was good and we were able to arrive in the two minute intervals specified in the mission brief. We were warmly welcomed for an overnight stay in the Officers' Mess and thoroughly enjoyed taking a number of RAF personnel up for 'experience flights' around Holy Island in the evening. The next morning there were tours of the Hawk squadron and the ATC and we were briefed for our flights home by the Met Office. Miraculously, we were all lined up on the required taxiway in time for our window of departure between waves of Hawks and Texan trainers. July 2023.
With enormous gratitude to Wing Commander Chris Pote and to Flt Lt Chris Ripper, our liaison officer, and to all the other RAF personnel we were fortunate enough to meet during our flying visit. Thanks also to Tony at Cae Mawr for his fantastic hospitality, Nigel Musgrave and Kevin Edmunds for their advice, and John 'Capt Braders' Bradbury for his guidance with planning.
