There is a fun little reference to a piece of literature at one point. When Nick Fury appears to Tony Stark in Clint Barton’s barn, Tony has no patience for Fury’s attitude and says “it’s been a really long day, like ‘Eugene O’Neill’ long”. This is a reference to O’Neill’s stage play, “Long Day’s Journey into Night”. This play centers on a dysfunctional family, which to a degree, is what the Avengers are, especially after earlier events of this movie.
