1. Ivanovo Oblast is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast).
2. The Ivanovo region was early in its history a melting pot between different populations like Russians, Europeans, Asians and others. Various ancient Uralian and ancient Slavic tribes inhabited the area.
3. Ivanovo is the administrative center and largest city of Ivanovo Oblast in European Russia.
4. The principal center of tourism is Plyos.
5. The cities of Ivanovo and Plyos are an integral part of the Golden Ring of Russia ; there are many historical and cultural monuments in the region.
6. In 1932, in Vichuga, Ivanovo industrial region, there was a strike and a riot of workers who were dissatisfied with the sharp decline in the rationing ration for bread. The strikers, having seized the building of the city party committee, the OGPU and the post office, announced the overthrow of the Soviet regime. According to official statistics 1 man was killed and several dozen injured in the strike that was attended by about 10 thousand workers. Troops were sent to suppress the rebellion, during the fighting several hundred workers were killed.
7. Globus-1 or `` Ivanovskaya Hiroshima '' is a project of peaceful underground nuclear explosions that took place on the territory of the USSR from 1965 to 1988. Object "Globus-1" is one of four points on the geophysical profile Moscow-Vorkuta.
